The district is known for its ancient temples, churches, and mosques.&nbsp;It contains the <strong>Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy<\/strong>, <strong>Kerala Lalithakala Akademi<\/strong> and <strong>Kerala Sahitya Academy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its name&nbsp;<strong>means<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201csmall sacred place.\u201d The city is built around a hillock topped by the Vadakkumnathan Temple (dedicated to Shiva), the focus of an annual festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thrissur Pooram<\/strong> is an annual Hindu religion festival held in Kerala,India. It is held at the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur every year on the Pooram day &#8211; the day when the moon rises with the Pooram star in the Malayalam Calendar month of Medam.
